I’ve been playing around with my method for enlarging images pass four times its original size without losing any detail by add sub pixels to the image. But depending on the image, my method could be changed to better suite an image for better results.
In this method, sub pixels are generated not just to the original image, but to a high light level of the image. The result is an image that does not lose dark details.

The image on the right is the new enhanced and enlarged image, click the image to see the full size comparison illustrating the new image at four times the original size and the original image re-sized with traditional enlargement.

The below image illustrates the same image at a higher light level. Here we see that there is some smoothing removing compression artifacts and little to no details lost with dark details you could not see with the original levels.
