Joe is heart set to fight Yuri in the ring, however, they need to get a decent set of gear. In the streets, some kids steal cameras from a man. Nanbu takes Joe to Goskino’s shop, there they heard is a good set of gear. Nanbu checks out the prototype gear while the kids sell the stolen goods. Potemkin Higashi works for Goskino as a guard, and was once a Megalo Boxer. The kids receive a red candy, the candy is a drug to escape reality.
The child “Sachio” picks a fight with Goskino over his share of the candy. Joe protects the kids and is thrown out. At Nanbu’s gym, Joe trains to fight Shark Samejima, also known as Maneater. Sachio takes an interest in Joe but he knows that Joe can never win with that weak gear. Sachio steels the prototype from Goskino. Joe fights with Higashi while wearing the prototype, the gear is completely useless as if crumbles. Joe manages to knock Higashi out.
