Joe enters his first qualifying match by facing Shark Samejima. Joe appears to the Megalonia without gear. The people are shocked by his discussion to not use gear. Can a gear less boxer really survive? Samejima has a reputation for losing his temper, earning himself the nickname “Maneater”. Joe is nearly beaten by Samejima’s fouls. Samejima is on thin ice, one more foul and he is disqualified and removed from boxing forever.
Joe wins by knockout, and soon Joe starts moving up the rank to the 102th position. Gearless Joe is becoming a rising star. Now people are starting to take notice. Nanbu meets with an old friend to learn that a boxer from his past is very interesting in challenging Joe.
