Learn moreFacebook grows distant and faceless from the online social scene as people post updates remotely, friends become lost in the mess or leave Facebook all together. This article attempts to explain reasons for why people ignore or do not read your Facebook updates.
The feed, everything you do on Facebook is published in the feed for all your friends to see your recent activities, unfortunately most people do not look through the feed, ignore it, or it is filled with game posts. When a person has too many friends the feed becomes overwhelmed and a limited amount of posts are displayed, making the reader miss many of today’s activities.
Profiles, the number one time a person would read your profile is when you are first added as a friend, the second reason is because someone is actively checking up on you. Ask yourself, how much time do you have to read up on all your friends; probably not a lot.
Friends, it is not uncommon for people to have an uncontrolled amount of Facebook friends. Some people think it’s a competition; many games encourage “Friend Whoring” to play the game. Some people don’t care who they accept as a friend. It is not uncommon to friend people you don’t know; there are thousands of people on Facebook with friends numbering in the thousands, you can easily conclude that they are not all friends and you wouldn’t be wrong.
The mobile factor, have you ever noticed Facebook displays the source of the postings. Facebook statuses for example can be posted outside of Facebook, by a phone, application or another website. People can update their profile without visiting Facebook and without seeing other peoples’ updates as well. Mobility can make Facebook faceless, imagine if everyone updated their profile remotely.
In the loop, have you noticed people posting status updates that make no sense. Many people post status updates without the “When, Where, Who, What, How” because the people reading it are in the loop and have close communications outside Facebook, this can be very annoying to people reading your posts.
People have to actively read your profile or e-mail you to keep social over Facebook otherwise your updates are nothing more than an unseen piece of text nobody cares about. Facebook will never replace a real face to face social scene and is growing more distant every day.
