Remote Computer Repair Scams

Important!

Dear visitors,

This blog and the Tigarus.com network will be changing our website software in May (2024). There will be some down time and there will be a change to the webpage addresses.

We will also be removing the Anime blogs. The Rocksmith Songs website will be unavailable of a few weeks or months while I move the database to the new software.

At the moment we are running on Wordpress, the new software is an in-house project which is 57 times faster. It will also provide more freedom for development.

Thank you for understanding.

Computer repair services that claim they can fix your computer remotely are in-fact false. This technology is intended only for remote assistance “technical support” and is limited to troubleshooting. A fast high speed Internet connect is also required for this service.

Remote assistance is used for troubleshooting and can only solve minor problems such as misconfiguration. Remote assistance cannot help you with random restarts, aggressive viruses/malware, etc.

Beware of online virus removal offers, virus scans can take hours and aggressive viruses cannot be removed easily from the host system while active. These online services require some software to be downloaded to your computer and should be avoided.

Beware of any remote service provider that requires you to pay for software, many remote assistance providers provide free to use software.

Anti-Virus scams, beware of technicians that try to convince you to purchase security software, many times you are tricked into purchasing rogue software which are malware.

Make sure the technician talks you through everything they are doing on the screen and you don’t walk away from the computer/phone. Make sure the technician asks for permission before downloading anything to your computer or accessing your data.

Thrust is a big issue with any remote assistance as you can’t see the person helping you. If you are not sure about the service provider, try visiting the company in person or consult a local technician.

Remote assistance can be much more efficient than on-site services “doing a house call” and much cheaper, just beware of the bad apples.
