R&D: Internet Explorer 9 Style Change Bug 2012/10/03

Important!

Dear visitors,

This blog and the Tigarus.com network will be changing our website software in May (2024). There will be some down time and there will be a change to the webpage addresses.

We will also be removing the Anime blogs. The Rocksmith Songs website will be unavailable of a few weeks or months while I move the database to the new software.

At the moment we are running on Wordpress, the new software is an in-house project which is 57 times faster. It will also provide more freedom for development.

Thank you for understanding.

So I have been working on a new Web App trying to add all the bells and whistles of software into it, when I noticed Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) failures to update the same way as every other browser does.

The problem, when setting some style attributes using Java Script, IE9 does not update what is on the screen till certain events occur, such as resizing the browser’s window or clicking the element that is to change.

Example of some style attributes that won’t change properly: disable, color.

After going a bit crazy about this, I knew one thing was apparent. I had to find away to force the displayed elements to update.

The solution, the style display attribute can do this.

Example:

document.getElementById(“wrapper”).style.display = “none”;
document.getElementById(“wrapper”).style.display = “inline-block”;

Everything within the wrapper ID will update.
The update is seem-less, and does not conflict with other Web browsers.
