Rant: Reasons I hate Apple’s Computers

, By Patcoola

Sound

If you’re not serious about good audio or you’re tone deaf, Apple computers use cheap RealTek integrated sound and Apple computers do not support surround sound nor do they support many of the common different speaker connections.

Proprietary parts

Apple computers are very limited to customization and upgrades, many iMacs indeed use desktop hard drives, however, many models do not use standardize connections.

Apple computers are heavily reliant to external add-ons, then you have a limited amount of USB ports in which you will have to attach USB hubs and USB hubs can be problematic. Thunderblot opens a wide range of possibilities but at a huge cost.

Adding a second monitor or connecting a projector to your computer is hellish with all the many adapters and compatibility issues.

Apple’s Operating System

OSX is simple and clean, however, all the advance options can only be used by typing the commands or with third-party software.

OSX has poor backward compatibility, every time there is an Apple update, something stops working and I have to wait for the software developers to update their software or drivers. After a few years nobody has an older version of OSX an I’m forced to update OSX and re-buy all my software again.

Download size, Apple updates are huge, I’m talking up to 500 megabytes huge, hundreds of times larger than Windows updates. An OSX service pack is about 1 gigabyte in size, double the size of a Windows service pack. If you have limited Internet access, Apple updates can use all your monthly Internet usage.

Security sucks, Apple’s Safari web browser is the Internet Explorer of Apple computers and Quick Time is no better. Apple computers are less secure than Windows and it is much easier to gain local access to an Apple than a PC. Constant complains about Java security holes because Apple does their own version of Java. Apple is slow to patch security holes and many updates happen when they become a problem, updates are larger and more frequent than Windows.

Apple gets Malware too

Apple stores can no longer say “A Trojan Horse is not a Virus” or “Macs don’t get Viruses” or “Macs have never had a Virus”. Now a days many Apple dealers are now pushing Anti-Virus software on all customer computers. What’s the point of getting an Apple computer if it’s less secure than Windows.

Given as long as you don’t use Safari and Quick Time, you’re behind a hardware firewall and you disable Java you are less likely to ever catch anything, but the same can be said with Windows, I have never catch a Virus in over eight years with any of my Windows machines.
