Running Windows Software

Apple users will say they have the largest software selection because you can run Windows, but at what cost?! You can run and integrate Windows using a virtual machine program like VMware or Parallels, but then you have to buy the virtual machine software, you would probable upgrade this software every year for the better performance/bug fixes/new features and you would have to buy a copy of Windows at the costs of hundreds of dollars. Then if you run Windows on your Apple computer, then what’s the point of buying an Apple. Virtual machines are not perfect and basically splits your computers resources in half, lowering your computers performance and putting a big drain on your laptops batteries. The amount of computing power you need to run a virtual machine puts a load on your computer and increases your electric bill in the long run, you would benefit best to use native Apple software. Virtual machines also take up a large amount of your computer’s storage space, and sharing files between the virtual machine and OSX is not super easy.

You can also partition your computer to run Windows nativity and switch between operating systems. Splitting your hard drive in two divides your computers storage and now you’re turning your computer on and off to switch between OSX and Windows. This is inefficient.

Windows Formatted Disks

OK so you have a USB Flash drive or an external hard drive with lots of files you want to access, you plug it into the Apple computer to find out the computer does not support your drive.

OSX does not have full support for storage mediums and USB mass storage devices such as external hard drives using a Windows format. For full access to use a Windows formatted disk you would have to buy software to gain full access, however, there are free software but in my experience they are not perfect and have very slow performance, some want you to buy the full software. Almost all external hard drives on the market are pre formatted for Windows.

Apple’s are not for Gaming

Apple computers use an entry level gaming graphics processor, however, they use the mobile version. The desktop model has about double the performance by comparison. Even if you run Windows on your Apple computer, your graphics processor will give you about half the frame rates of the desktop model.

Apple graphics processing units (GPU) are in fact different from their PC counter parts, so upgrading a Mac Pro’s graphics card with a PC card should not work. The Apple GPU has core instruction sets such as core animation to increase OSX’s visual performance.

The most expensive Apple computer which may cost well into the thousands of dollars has a decent GPU for gaming but you’re running a very high resolution screen. A high resolution screen requires more resources to display images, a 27 inch screen at 2k resolution requires a large amount of GPU power to render and display 3D graphics at 2k resolution, you would have to reduce your resolution and stretch the image for better performance, the GPUs available to Apple computers are not suitable for gaming at 2k resolution even with the less graphically demanding games.

People are stupid, Flash games are Web browser games, they are not serious “Real” games. PC games are big games like Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, Skyrim. Web browser games are small and insignificant, I use to make Flash games.
