The new 2016 cards prove to be a monumental advancement in technology. They have cut power consumption nearly in half and have essentials doubled performance. This new line of products make 2016 the best time to upgrade your video card. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 mobile is excepted to be virtual reality (VR) capable.
In the near future we can except AMD’s Fury and RX 490 in 2017 and NVIDIA’s rumored GT 1050 to be announced this October. The rumored GT 1050 is excepted to similar to the RX 460 with the same power consumption of 75 watts and performance above the RX 460. However, the GT 1050 is also excepted to cost about 20 dollars more on average over the RX 460. Also rumored is the RX 460 reaching laptops and possibly iMacs in 2017 as it is with no modification.
Model Sevens
AMD Radeon R7 370, Score: 8250, TDP: 110w
AMD Radeon RX 470, Score: 16570, TDP: 120w
2X performance gain with a 10 watts gain
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970, Score: 15750, TDP: 145w
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070, Score: 24760, TDP: 165w
1.5X performance gain with a 20 watts gain
Compared to their predecessors AMD has had the biggest improvement were NVIDIA seems to have taken one step back with an increase in wattage. If there is a reward for most improved, AMD is a shoe in. AMD’s RX 470 is perhaps the most desirable video card on the market for the hubbiest that doesn’t want to break the bank. The RX 470 beats out the GTX 970 in performance, power consumption, and price. The GTX 970 is currently the benchmark for virtual reality (VR).
