Quick Start Guide

Comfort:

The headset is large with 50mm drivers (ear cups). Featuring comfortable memory foam on the ears and head band. The memory foam is covered with a mesh elastic cloth, instead of thin plastic that tares over time.

Comfort

Size:

Large size, and not fold able. This headset’s ear cups can rotate so you can lay the headset flat but it still takes a lot of space.

Setup:

The headset is very easy to setup. Windows 10 is virtually plug and play. However, the default setting is stereo. I highly recommend installing the CUE software from Corsair. The software has all your settings and the battery level indicator.

To turn the headset on, hold down the power button on the side of the left ear cup. To turn it off, hold down the power button.

Buttons:

The headset has a power and microphone button as well as a volume trigger. I found the mic button to be a bit loose and can make a sound when moving your head. A quick fix for the mic button is to fold and place a small piece of paper in the side.

buttons

Cord:

The headset is completely wireless, and only requires the cable for power.

The USB cable is about 6 feet (1.5 meter) in length with a USB micro connector. Wearing the headset with the cable connected is a bit uncomfortable as the plug is long and stiff. The cable can sometimes be felt on my shoulder.

cord

Wireless:

The wireless is advertised as a 2.4GHz frequency up to 40 feet of range. The wireless in my experience preforms similar to Bluetooth headphones; I got about 25 feet with obstructions. Note that I live in the country side and where there is virtual no wireless interference.

The wireless adapter is a bit large compared to mice and keyboards or Bluetooth. The Adapter is the size of a long USB Flash drive. The adapter has a white light to indicate connectivity, solid for connected, blinking for on but not connected, no light for off.

transmitter

Battery:

The headset is advertised as 16 hours, I agree. However, getting 16 hours is at a moderate volume of 6% for music with the RGB lights off. User experience will vary.

A full recharge takes about four hours.

CUE Software:

The CUE Software is basically required. You need it to set the RGB lights, switch from stereo to Dolby mode, set your microphone levels, see your battery level, etc. I find the software bulky and does not do well with small screens with low resolutions.

software

RGB:

Red Green Blue (RGB) light up ear cups. The headset can display a large range of colors and has seven light effects. I think it’s cool but not for me, its just a drain on the battery for lights I can’t see out a mirror.

Effects include: Static Color, Blink, Breathe, Beat, Rainbow Pulse, Rainbow, Lighting Link.

Audio:

The stereo quality is your typical weak and flat headset quality which has not changed in the last 10 years for Corsair. However, the Dolby mode is top notch. Dolby mode provides the rich audio experience we want and provides the boom in our explosions. The audio quality is still clearly below a professional headphone such as the Sony MDR-7506 for 129 dollars CAD. The Corsair VOID RGB provides a bit of surround sound where available and a home theater boom.

Dolby mode could case poor quality audio to crackle. In this case you could use the CUE software’s equalizer to lower settings or switch to stereo.

A light white (static) noise can be heard in very silent rooms. I don’t recommend this headset for audio recording. The microphone can also cause this noise if on and “side tone” is up.

*Surround sound is hard to test for and is often not very noticeable. I find true surround sound to be almost nonexistent in most movies and games, but that is just my experience.

Microphone:

The microphone is average, I really couldn’t tell you more from a common microphone.

The boom arm is a flexible plastic with elastic properties. Bong bong bong. The elasticity of the arm acts as a shock absorber. The arm has limited adjust ability as you can only rotate the arm up and down. I found rotating the arm to ratchet with a loud grind and rubbing sound.

A microphone button is featured on the headset. The head of the microphone has two lights, one for microphone capture (monitor), the other for battery. Note the lights can be used for codes indicating features, I don’t bother with it.

software

Conclusion:

Overall I really enjoy the wireless freedom. The 16 hour battery is wonderful. The audio is a big step up over stereo sets. The surround sound does make a difference in gaming if noticeable. This headset is very comfortable. Love the cloth and memory foam. I really can’t complain about its minor flaws as a budget wireless headset. For most usage you will never notice any flaws in sound and you can always switch to stereo mode for poor audio recordings. The headset has a very light static noise which makes it not good for audio work, almost not noticeable. Cord is only for charging, takes four hours to charge. Microphone is mediocre. Headset does not work with a Mac or Linux operating systems. USB transmitter is a bit big with a white light which can blink. CUE software is basically a requirement. With all its minor flaws I don’t see anything really wrong with it for the majority of people. I use my headset everyday.
