Project: Browser Pusher

Important!

Dear visitors,

This blog and the Tigarus.com network will be changing our website software in May (2024). There will be some down time and there will be a change to the webpage addresses.

We will also be removing the Anime blogs. The Rocksmith Songs website will be unavailable of a few weeks or months while I move the database to the new software.

Project Title: Browser Pusher

Purpose: Notify website visitors that their web browser software is greatly out of date and cannot view this website. Push the visitor to download and update their software.

Description: Website standards are changing and moving quickly, outdated web browsers cannot currently display the website. Disallow website visitors from viewing pages with outdated software. Deny access to the site when an outdated web browser is detected, display a notification page and push the visitor to download a new web browser such as Firefox, Opera and Chrome.

Methodology: Browser Pusher works by detecting the rendering engine’s version and not the web browsers name/software version such as Firefox or Chrome. By detecting for the rendering engine, Browser Pusher tries not to discriminate between web browsers and can check a wider rage of browsers. Browser Pusher will suggest the top most common popular web browsers and the visitor will have to choose which one they would like to try.

What I am pushing:

  • Opera 7
  • AppleWebKit 200
  • Konqueror 2
  • Gecko 2006
  • MSIE 6

Only versions great than these listed will be allowed to visit my websites.

Legacy browsers immediately denied:

  • Internet Explorer 5 and older (Windows and Mac)
  • All versions of Netscape (Windows, Mac, Unix, etc)

Special exceptions:

  • Opera Mini 9; This web browser is used with next generation smart phones and older versions will not be allowed.

Version numbers to be pushed will change with time as more software reaches their end of life cycle and new web standards are introduced.
